ENVIRONMENT
We treat and respect the environment with utmost care, seeking no exploitation. At Royal Park, we strongly believe in sustainable growth, keeping in mind the environment and community at large. We strive to contribute towards reducing greenhouse gasses that contribute to global warming in two folds. Whilst strictly conforming to environmental regulations, we maximize efforts within our purview to reduce greenhouse gases. Some of the initiatives we have adopted are:
- 80% energy used in our kitchen is natural gas
- Water heating system in the entire hotel is powered by natural gas.
- All bulbs in rooms and corridors and host’s areas are energy save type, thereby contributing largely towards saving electricity. Regular energy audits are conducted by us and savings made through power factor corrections and other methods.
- Air-conditioners – We have replaced all our air-conditioners in guest bedrooms with energy efficient units in the year 2007. All these are individual units which could be operated only if the room is occupied thereby minimizing energy consumption, unlike conventional air-conditioning plants which operates all air-conditioners in the hotel whether rooms are occupied or not.
- Water – Through good operating practices, we encourage our team members and our guests to conserve water without compromising. We have displayed attractive notices in all host areas as to how they could contribute towards saving water. We have displayed notices in all our guest bathrooms how much water they could save by using a little less time in a shower or keeping a tap shut while brushing teeth.
- Guest Linen – Through a very innovative method ‘Royal Save the Sun ‘ programme, we effectively manage to convince our guests to re-use bed linen and towels unless a change is required. This is monitored on a daily basis and results have proven that we make over a 50% saving on conserving water, energy and chemicals by reducing the number of washes.
- Recycle Paper – We do not print unless required. We reuse all paper, envelopes, bags etc internally with very strict adherence. Even our internal documentation are printed both sides of paper and every inch of paper is re-used.
- All our internal computers are networked – therefore most communications takes place without printouts. All our computers are also on screen saver modes thereby saving energy when not in use.
- Polythene – We have reduced use of poly martial by 85%. All our waste bin under layers are jute and 100% bio-degradable, thereby not only contributing towards reducing greenhouse gases but maximizing and promoting local produce thus assisting the community.
- Food Waste – we minimize food waste. Whilst taking steps to produce food in smaller quantities by minimizing waste, we donate excess food towards charities and the waste are separated and given for animal feed to local farms.
- Suppliers - With ISO & HACCP standards strictly in adherence, we ensure with our suppliers that they supply us with more local, fresh farm produce and also reduce packing waste. Packing materials are re-used internally for various other activities.
- Furniture & Paints – We strive in using low emission paints by sourcing our paints through internationally known suppliers of quality, low emission paints and also in investing in furniture made from sustainably sourced or recycled materials.
COMMUNITY
- Royal Park strives in extending a hand beyond its commercial activities contributing towards the local community. We distribute 500 packets of lunch to the poor every month on selected 5 days, in addition to the excess food that is being distributed to the poor.
- It assists a few children’s homes on a regular basis including the Mother Teressa home for under privileged children.
- We hire local talent as much as possible in our team whether on long term or short term basis. More than 50% of our team members are recruited directly from local communities without any experience and trained to be responsible team players in various chosen fields in the hotel. Contracts for all our external works such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing are handled mainly by the local community.
- We strive in promoting local culture and sports by sponsoring various such events thus by integrating our team members in to the local community by encouraging them to jointly organize sporting and other socio-cultural events etc. with the local community clubs and societies.
- Assist the local community during natural disasters such as floods, cyclones etc. – have distributed food, dry rations and clothing aid during Cyclone Sidar, Cyclone Ayla, to name a few.
